That's a bug. I have no idea what I was thinking.
Probably I edited the wrong file at some point.
Take it out.

I'm very interested in finding what the problem is here,
but I tried to reproduce it when you first reported it
and cannot. Can you cull your setup down to a (small)
script that demonstrates the problem? I don't really
care whether the script is small, just as long as it's something
self-contained so I can run it.
The date stamps on directories are ignored.
