i don't run smb so it's difficult for me to say what's wrong.
but it looked to me like the message was malformed.
why don't you breadcrumb around the area of the failure,
i think you can get a lot more information pretty quickly.
you may want to establish that the whole message was received
correctly before doing anything else.  maybe the whole message
isn't being read.
