You could try using syscall to figure out which
operation that copy does is failing, though I suspect
it is the create.

srvold9p is a crutch, to help you hobble along with both
r3 and r4 CPU systems until you completely switch over
(and until we get a new drawterm out).  It served us well
as we hobbled along during the transition.  But it is
only meant for hobbling, not for running, and certainly
not for jumping and dancing.

You'll be less frustrated if you just convert your old
systems.
