I was pretty clueless about the whole business, >>though. although quite a lot of the kernel code is indeed the same or similar, especially now, at least on the pc, clearly related, and i/we increasingly get them to interact with fewer gateways, the upper architectures are actually rather different in principle. bits have gone back and forth between them below that, where sensible, for quite a long time, and you never know what might show up next.
