oh it's the same in cwfs and in linux. if i remember right, (and i think i do,) it's always been this way in linux. (tried linux tmpfs recently, but i think permissions are enforced by the kernel 'over there', and i'm pretty sure it was the same on ext2 in linux 2.0.) i'd try some other unixes, but i have too much work to do today.
