There are several Linux distributions aimed at digital audio workstation usage. They come with an appropriate kernel configuration/ patchset (and audio daemons). The notion that Linux should fork ignores the reality that most distributions have different kernel configurations and source already. The OpenMoko or Android kernel is quite different to that running on an SGI Altix (and that's ignoring stuff like uClinux, RT- Linux, etc). d
