that's right, the radeon driver isn't in the default distribution so
it wouldn't have recognized your card at all..

there are a few options for you to try: one is to run the vga dumper
code (available from the additional software page) under a different
OS, find the VID/DID pairs or memory which can be plugged in vgadb,
plug them in vgadb and recreate the cd.  another is to install on a
different laptop and switch the hard drive over, the third is to
install from a floppy without vga...

once you get plan9 on the laptop recompiling the kernel for your card
to work should be easy.
