The dumb mode doesn't really cause a loss of functionality, because the things that ircII normally does with curses are basically identical to standard rio window insertion point behavior. (If I remember right, you can #define out the curses functions because if you haven't set TERM in your environment it won't even try to use them. Otherwise you can use -d.)
