Hi,

I am having troubles installing plan9 on my pc and I hope to find help
here.
The machine is a sony vaio laptop from 1999 (model PFG), no network
card, not connected to anything.

Here are the symptoms:
I am able to boot from the floppy, then I am in the install 'rio'
screen.
There I am able to:
    configfs (I choose kfs)
partdisk (one part., I want plan9 as the only os)
    prepdisk (9fat[100MB],nvram[512B],fs[5.45GB],swap[512MB]).
    mountfs :
        I get the following message:
            bad nvram key
            bad authentification id, domain
            setting up minimal user table
    configdist
I choose local and then /dev/sdD0/data containing plan9.iso
        (downloaded from the distribution site).

Then, I have the nice progress bar for the 'installing file system'
and it is _very_ slow: it took +6h to complete with the following
problem: I have a _lot_ of this:

error reading Mj: I/O read error

over and over...and then that is basically it.

I would be grateful if anybody knew what could be the problem (and
remedy) here.

Thanks very much for your help.

Sincerely,

jj

PS: the same laptop was okay when installing linux.
