there appears to be a bad interaction between the mxlookup in smtp
and google's setup. they have this record for smtp.gmail.com
; ndb/dnsquery
> smtp.gmail.com any
smtp.gmail.com cname gmail-smtp.l.google.com
evidently, the expect cname resolution before the mxquery. perhaps
smtp isn't doing that.
