I remember a http: device back on my Amiga that would make the network look
like a file, and allow any old program access to http. So, in the same way
you would view a local file, e.g.
multiview dh0:docs/foo.txt,
you could do
multiview http:foo.bar.com/foo.txt
URL formatting aside, this was a neat trick. Particularly with
datatype-aware programs like multiview, which effectively had plugins to
deal with html, gif, jpg and so forth.
