"was clean" is quite different from "is clean". (both are useful, but they're orthogonal to one another). perhaps the 'f' line could indicate both (e.g. with an extra space/backquote to indicate "is clean"). while on the subject of undo/redo, would it be terrible to have a "Redoall" command? as when clicking repetitively on "Redo" i invariably click one too many times (whereupon the "Redo" has replaced itself by "Put") and write the file unintentionally, sometimes with annoying results.
