true that. however, people still manage medium-to-high level with a bit of 
macros and advanced stuff.

the other day i browsed http://9hal.ath.cx/usr/cinap_lenrek/cifsd.tgz -- looks 
high-level enough for me.

putty uses home-brew coroutines in portable C, as per 
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/coroutines.html
