* [9fans] How do I get a C compiler and what ever else I need to run p9p on an intel Mac w/ 10.6.6? @ 2011-02-09 0:29 Tom West 2011-02-09 0:31 ` Lyndon Nerenberg 2011-02-09 0:41 ` Russ Cox 0 siblings, 2 replies; 4+ messages in thread From: Tom West @ 2011-02-09 0:29 UTC (permalink / raw) To: Fans of the OS Plan 9 from Bell Labs It seems that the only way to get the compiler is to become a MAC Developer. True? All I want are the plan9 user basics - shell, sam, acme, compiler - plus ready access to a browser. I don't have the need or talent to write GUI applications. Will someone kindly suggest the easiest way to get plan9 port running non an intel mac w/10.6.6? Thanks -Tom ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread

You have to sign up for a free Developer account. No big deal. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread

Yes, you need to install Xcode, which you can download by clicking on the "Mac Dev Center" link here: http://developer.apple.com/technologies/xcode.html As Lyndon said, it requires a (free) login. Alternately, Xcode may be in the Optional Installs folder on your Snow Leopard installation DVD. Russ ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread

(The Xcode pkg is something like 3.21 GB. When I started the download the estimated duration was 11+ hours, and over night grew to 4+ days, as the DSL bogged down.) The installation of p9p was pleasantly uneventful, thanks to some first class programming, mostly by Russ, I believe. So, thanks again. -Tom On Feb 8, 2011, at 7:41 PM, Russ Cox wrote: > On Tue, Feb 8, 2011 at 7:29 PM, Tom West <twest9@verizon.net> wrote: >> It seems that the only way to get the compiler is to become a MAC >> Developer. > > Yes, you need to install Xcode, which you can download by > clicking on the "Mac Dev Center" link here: > http://developer.apple.com/technologies/xcode.html > As Lyndon said, it requires a (free) login. > > Alternately, Xcode may be in the Optional Installs > folder on your Snow Leopard installation DVD. > > Russ > ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread
