Subject: [9fans] why is kernel compiled for "old" usb scheme?
Date: Tue, 14 Dec 2010 22:43:48 +0100	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <AANLkTinfYMFq5DZUSSwOsuv7n3sDKsSxEiZqxsgwmgHx@mail.gmail.com> (raw)

Hi,
I am new to plan9 and I installed it on my laptop but wanted to use my
3 button usb mouse.
It was not recognised at all, and when booting 9pcf kernel I noted #U
(kapital U) printouts
which I found out to indicate an old kernel. I also got some error
messages for usb devices.
After recompiling and copying the 9pcf kernel the usb mouse works just fine:

cd /sys/src/9/pc
mk 'CONF=pcf'
cp 9pcf /386/
9fat:
cp 9pcf /n/9fat/

(I copied to both locations since I wasn't sure which one to use)

Is there any reason for not using the new usb handling in the
precompiled kernel?

Regards
Mikael
