The 9pi image is intended as a close approximation to the 4th edition, adapted for the Raspberry Pi. For practical daily use I'd recommend the 9legacy SD image instead. The 9legacy.org site has a build script showing how that is made, starting from the 9legacy CD image,

No, they are the exact same patches. I meant that each patch has been applied only once, so the source file modification times show when the patch was done, not when the SD image was made.
