We had IWP9 several months ago. I finally got time to send
out a summary

We had a grand total of 66 signups, though (as we would expect
with a free tier) we think a decent portion of them were no shows,
and we were probably closer to 40 people in attendance.(We
don't actually track who shows up; the free tickets are there
mostly so we can get the right amount of swag).

There were 16 papers accepted by 15 authors, and several
lightning talks were given by people who had not submitted
a paper, meaning that probably about half of the people in
attendance had something they had done and wanted to talk about.

While nobody was tracking the things people hacked on during
the hackathon, there was a relatively big risc-v contingent,
as well as several discussions that lead towards the current
design of 9front's new atomics.

As for logistics:

Currently, the P9F has two main expenses: Funding the P9F website
and services, and hosting IWP9, Between the cost of hosting the
servers, and mailing lists, our monthly bill comes out to about
thirty dollars.

The last IWP9 was slightly more expensive than most, largely
because we offered organized lunches. For those following along
at home, here's a breakdown of the costs (the numbers are a bit
out of line, because USD -> EUR rates have shifted):

Conference expenses:
   Lunch: $1368.00
   Shirts: $792.00
   Museum: $684.00
   Printing: $280.824
Overhead:
   Wire fees: $50.00
   Eventbrite Fees: $289.98
Total Cost:
   $3475.74
Total income:
   $3458.98
Net revenue:
  -16.76

Which means we are almost perfectly on target for charging
people what our expenses were. Going forward, we're likely
to be using a different payment processor, which would put
us comfortably in the green.

IWP9 was made possible through the donation of space at the
Conservatoire national des arts et métiers in Paris; a space
that would likely cost us thousands of dollars to rent
othrwise.

Expect another email from the P9F about donations, but for
the coming years, we aim to have enough in the P9F bank
account to cover at least 1 less successful IWP9 (eg, if we
get significantly more free signups than expected), with a
stretch goal of being to do nice things like offering
travel grants to people who would be otherwise unable
to attend.
