I wanted to try installing Plan 9 on my laptop,  so far I have tried using Plop boot manager to run Plan 9 with the USB and seemingly it works enough to open to the installer but then there are errors. :<

I have tried the live CD and USB image from the Bell Labs website, 9legacy, and 9atom. I am using rufus to write to the USB, but I have also tried using unetbootin, usbwriter and imageusb. Although I think it is written to the USB correctly because I can run Plan 9 on a virtual machine from my USB. I have also tried booting from Super Grub2.

I tried to download the 9atom.iso with wayback machine because the website is gone, but the file is corrupt and it does not work, also if you know where to find a non-corrupt version of 9atom, that would be amazing. I have tried different BIOS changes, CD burn attempt, um I also wiped the master boot record of my hard drive and that didn't help lol. I am maybe considering using Qemu on the laptop but it would be better to not run it from a virtual machine, because I really want a minimal OS. I don't want to use 9front because Glenda is awesome and I don't really like anime.

These are the errors I am getting, I think it maybe is to do with the hard drive, I'm not sure, but I don't particularly want to remove the hard drive, and I have tried with different OS installed like Tinycore and Windows XP, and also with no OS installed, creating new partitions, wiping all the files etc.

You don't have to like anime to use 9front. Your best bet is to try 9front unless you feel like tinkering and debugging.

You'll have a lot better luck with 9front via a usb then the historicaL /
alternative forks.

To clarify,

9legacy is more historic snapshot of bell labs code with some minor fixes.

9front is where devs usually fix all the things or just play around as our
own local fork.

9atom was for atom pcs and not really maintained.

None of these has anything to do with cirno or anime. even the root user
called cirno can be anything, its not a hard coded convention like in *NIX
systems.

If your getting errors on 9legacy, p9p, or etc. we most likely fixed or
have a bug bounty for it in 9front.
