I tried this a while back before my eee 701, uh, got mostly dismantled.  I had to edit a file for the southbridge, if i recall correctly, to be detected.   looks like maybe you got past that too?   the network chipset is atl2, no driver for it, btw...  i'd be interested to hear more about this even though mine now lacks a screen.
