As I understand it Acme came after Sam, and Acme exposes Sams edit language through the Edit command, as well as providing "window" management, the ability to run a terminal inside, and exposing a file system for control by scripts etc. It seems like a solid improvement on Sam, which is itself a very nice text editor.
