It all installed fine and booted fine. I've not had time to setup networking etc. but it certainly doesn't hang as you describe. I have noticed that the 'default install' doesn't seem to work if installing on a virtual hard disk that already has plan9 on it (in my case installing 9atom over the labs version, it didn't seem to actually do anything and booted back to the labs distro) . Did you start from a fresh HD this time? I can send you my 9atom.vbox (the XML config file) separately if you want.
