Looks great!

However, I would advise against the CC=cc... lines in the makefiles. They break badly when I execute the commonly-done `make CC=my_compiler`. In particular, the Makefile in sam/sam has this:

CC=cc $(SYSFLAGS)

Which obviously breaks when I set CC to a custom compiler. Can't SYSFLAGS be added to CFLAGS instead?
