You can check that the listener is working by telnet tcp!!25 it should say 220 SMTP If not, then you haven't got the listener launched properly. If so, then there is a problem delivering the mail. You can also try modifying /rc/bin/service/tcp25 to turn on debugging (see the manual), and then create /sys/log/smtpd with read/write permission for all. You could then tail -f /sys/log/smtpd and then dial Demon and see what happens. Other faults include /mail/box/ not existing. --upas-wkcdhzthipwjbzpriepyoxkakg Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Received: from mail.cse.psu.edu ([130.203.4.6]) by cpu; Mon Dec 18 13:37:43 GMT 2000 Received: from psuvax1.cse.psu.edu (psuvax1.cse.psu.edu [130.203.30.6]) by mail.cse.psu.edu (CSE Mail Server) with ESMTP id D57F4199DC; Mon, 18 Dec 2000 08:35:07 -0500 (EST) Received: from localhost.local (localhostnl.demon.nl [195.11.248.215]) by mail.cse.psu.edu (CSE Mail Server) with SMTP id 82DF7199D5 for <9fans@cse.psu.edu>; Mon, 18 Dec 2000 08:34:04 -0500 (EST) Received: (qmail 230 invoked by uid 1001); 18 Dec 2000 13:30:43 -0000 From: "William Staniewicz" To: 9fans@cse.psu.edu Subject: Re: [9fans] SMTP mail Message-ID: <20001218143043.A200@localhost.local> References: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 1.0.1i In-Reply-To: ; from nigel@9fs.org on Mon, Dec 18, 2000 at 10:53:10AM +0000 Sender: 9fans-admin@cse.psu.edu Errors-To: 9fans-admin@cse.psu.edu X-BeenThere: 9fans@cse.psu.edu X-Mailman-Version: 2.0 Precedence: bulk Reply-To: 9fans@cse.psu.edu List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: Fans of the O/S Plan 9 from Bell Labs <9fans.cse.psu.edu> List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2000 14:30:43 +0100 On Mon, Dec 18, 2000 at 10:53:10AM +0000, nigel@9fs.org wrote: > Assuming you have started the listeners (aux/listen), then smtp mail is delivered > automatically once you connect to Demon. After waiting for a period of time nothing seems to have popped into the mail column. I know there was mail waiting. 6. I did a "cat /net/ndb" and saw that ip, netmask, and dns were there. I am trying to get SMTP mail going but seem to be missing something. Any ideas or recommendations? Bill --upas-wkcdhzthipwjbzpriepyoxkakg--
