might be due to 9front not doing any power management at all. maybe theres
even a watchdog set by the bios to shut the machine down after some time
if acpi hasnt been taken over by the OS to prevent it from melting down
spinning at the bios prompt (bios doesnt do interrupts, so they poll
everything and busy-wait).
could also be emergency shutdown if the machine overheats. i'd check
the bios if there are any settings regarding power management or watchdogs.
