Greetings,

I saw in the past that Plan 9 participated in the Google Summer of Code.
This year I have summer off and I am very interested in working on Plan
9. Does anyone know who to contact? If you can provide me the email
address, I will reach out.

I seem to recall Anthony Sorace had provided mentorship in the past,
although I may be mistaken.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Aaron,

Not sure if it's changed in recent years but when I participated as a
student in 2022 the orgs (like plan 9) would apply themselves then later on
applicants would apply through google for the orgs they want to participate
in. Check https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/ for more details.

Plan 9 Foundation has applied for GSoC almost every year since its
formation. I believe 2021 was the last year P9F was approved for GSoC.
Before P9F, Anthony, who is the board member most familiar with GSoC,
organized it (first one in 2007):

I would encourage those interested in mentoring and potential interns
to think about and suggest their ideas for projects. Here are some
examples from the 2024 GSoC application:

Anthony was involved. The last time Plan9 was selected was in 2021. I believe the last time plan9 entered GSOC was 2024. Anthony should have details.

I'd be interested in being a contributor/intern for GSoC if P9F is
accepted this year. Thinking about project ideas, Is there any way to
tell which proposals from the 2024 document were implemented and which
weren't?

I don't think anyone applied. If we had, I'd guess our chances of
getting in would be quite low.

You can write code without waiting for Google. You don't even have
to wait for summer. Our repos are up all year 'round.

The easiest would be looking at the code and the docs.

Yea, I sort-of meant if there was a report-out page on the 2024 GSoC, but I realize now that P9F didn't participate.

From the 2024 list, is replacing the wikifs markup with ... markdown still something of interest?

If any interest is expressed at all I'd start with porting MD4C <https://github.com/mity/md4c> to Plan 9 and go from there. For the Inferno wikifs I'd say that textmangle <https://github.com/mjl-/textmangle> is a good starting point.
