Hi,
I am having troubles installing plan9 on my pc and I hope to find help
here.
The machine is a sony vaio laptop from 1999 (model PFG), no network
card, not connected to anything.
Here are the symptoms:
I am able to boot from the floppy, then I am in the install 'rio'
screen.
There I am able to:
configfs (I choose kfs)
partdisk (one part., I want plan9 as the only os)
prepdisk (9fat[100MB],nvram[512B],fs[5.45GB],swap[512MB]).
mountfs :
I get the following message:
bad nvram key
bad authentification id, domain
setting up minimal user table
configdist
I choose local and then /dev/sdD0/data containing plan9.iso
(downloaded from the distribution site).
Then, I have the nice progress bar for the 'installing file system'
and it is _very_ slow: it took +6h to complete with the following
problem: I have a _lot_ of this:
error reading Mj: I/O read error
over and over...and then that is basically it.
I would be grateful if anybody knew what could be the problem (and
remedy) here.
Thanks very much for your help.
Sincerely,
jj
PS: the same laptop was okay when installing linux.

Please google the 9fans archive. This error
allegedly is both harmless and easily fixable.

Bad install cd?
Can you try the install cd on another machine?
Try making another install cd?
Bad cd drive on the laptop?

Was the linux install cd made with the same
equipment and set up as whatever made the
plan9 install cd?
