ok, I have a rather stupid piece of hardware that only has one IDE
channel.
If I set up cdrom as slave, hdd as master, I can boot the cd (option 2),
but if I try the option of 'install from cd', at some point the system
locks up (after some processes have started).
Anybody tried doing this?
thanks
ron

Never had it lock up... but I've had to be very specific as to which
device the CDROM is on.
Plan 9 installer is not really "configurable" in this way but it's
not too hard to work around either.

slave device on ide primary channel.
Anyway, I just went and found a 2-channel machine, I'm using that for the
install

Do you have the 1400x1050 panel on yours?
I had non-vesa running at I think 800x600x8 before. Unfortunately, the
actual panel died (started flickering/buzzing & went dark) just 3 weeks
ago :( Otherwise I would test.
Anyone know a good source of grey market panels? It'd be a shame to lose
the nice laptop.

This is an old S3 chipset.
The mouse is not as snappy as the standard driver, at least to my eyes.
