This is really, really tiny, but if you move the rightmost
column as far right as is possible you cannot get a new
column with Newcol.
I'd prefer the new column to be dropped to the right of
the current working column anyway. Perhaps it's just me,
but I'm used to having the farthest right column contain error
messages from compilation and the like.
