and then put the hard disk inside the IBM Thinkpad X20,
and then do the installation, using the image on the hard disk?

hmmm... then the problem becomes:
how to boot the X20 into the installation program
once the hard disk is again inside the X20...
does the X20 have a floppy,
or could a usb stick be used, or so?
