It was for a previous Plan 9 graphics model. It was done on the Carrera using the Carrera's own framebuffer and an ISA VGA card plugged in to the EISA bus (I think it was a Tseng ET4000 -based card); the framebuffer and VGA card had different resolutions but the same depth. It appeared as one large virtual screen. I saw it demonstrated but don't remember much more about it than that.
