Of course Indic support in Unicode is complicated anyway: http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/ucs-fonts.html#indic I am trying out Tamil support in Plan 9 using TUNE. http://www.tunerfc.tn.gov.in/TUNE-an_introduction.htm TUNE is a new encoding with its own problems - but atleast I don't have to worry about glyph reordering and ligatures. It maps each Tamil character to one code point. Arvindh
