Sometimes people wonder: "Why does software suck?"

There are many answers.

One answer is the growth of needless complexity.

Why is needless complexity rewarded?

Because it is more easy to patent complex than simple.

You probably can't patent "muxing pipes" alone.

But you can patent Very Complicated Muxing Pipes.
