In may case, I ended up thinking that the problem was due to a race condition in the ether driver that did show up for arp frames that were *s l o w* to be replied. I'd say you could try just replacing the fs card and see what happens. If the problem terminates, then it would mean that it was the race and that it's still there (and I could try to fix it, with your help).
