They only confuse people and make sure we have to keep them in sync > with the sources. linux, solaris, and others often do not (more often than not) come with the compilers (``development environment'') installed these days, and it's a nuisance to have to install all that just to have the single executable, drawterm, especially if you don't own the system from which you're trying to escape to sanity.
