And it's not that I *think* swap is broken; it's been confirmed it worked adequately to cover minor shortfalls in memory, which could happen in the best of machines. now there is typically so much physical memory it hardly ever is invoked on my systems, unless i'm burning a CD from ramfs and get the numbers wrong.
