I was hoping to put that issue to sleep, it is just one of many
idiocies that have caught the imagination of those who ultimately make
a difference.  Like including upper case in the alphabet.

My point was that under the circumstances we are stuck with people who
DO use the leading dot to make files disappear from directory listings
and they won't budge :-)
