To avoid that problem the second time I re-installed _everything_ (win98, linux, freebsd, & plan9) on my quadruple boot machine, when installing linux and using fdisk, I created a plan 9 partition ( type 0x39 if memory serves me right, don't rely on it until the number's been confirmed). This partition was not formated, of course, linux can't mkfs a plan 9 fs, but space was allocated - correctly sized. Plan 9 installation had no problem using this partition. Hope this helps, Joel
