no, it's an experiment at this point. there are other ideas out there,
and I should have paid more attention to op as nemo points out :-)

the main point was to see what was possible, given the well known poor
performance of 9p on high latency links. This poor performance has an
analog in HPC, where microseconds are large units of time.
