control key broken in vncs

i've been using an old version of vncs; the last updated source files being these:

my client is an even older binary on linux. this version of vncs works almost entirely correctly with that client, only failing to recognize one key: end. i've lived with that for years now, it's not a real problem.

by contrast, in current vncs, the *control* key is not recognized from the same client! i'm sure i don't need to say how serious this is. this was on a separate machine installed from the latest iso.  newer files are these:

i started investigating, finding one change to kbds.c within the data range, but it appears to be irellevant to the problem. i won't continue investigating as i'm ending my daily use of 9front.
