Looks like the issue hasn't happened again, so unfortunately I don't have any trace. Here are some more detailed logs from the original issue. Jul 13 19:49:01 mail smtpd[53491]: smtp connected address=216.126.196.35 host=1ess.inri.net Jul 13 19:49:01 mail smtpd[53491]: smtp failed-command command="MAIL FROM:" result="503 5.5.1 Invalid command: Command not allowed at this point." [...] Jul 13 20:30:23 mail smtpd[53491]: smtp connected address=216.126.196.35 host=1ess.inri.net Jul 13 20:30:23 mail smtpd[53491]: smtp failed-command command="Received: from compute1.internal (compute1.nyi.internal [10.202.2.41])" result="500 5.5.1 Invalid command: Command unrecognized" [...] Jul 13 20:58:54 mail smtpd[53491]: smtp connected address=216.126.196.35 host=1ess.inri.net Jul 13 20:58:54 mail smtpd[53491]: smtp failed-command command="Received: by mail-pj1-f45.google.com with SMTP id n11so12859079pjo.1" result="500 5.5.1 Invalid command: Command unrecognized" The first log looks like a missing HELO/EHLO from 1ess.inri.net, and the latter two look like email is being sent before a DATA command. All of the remaining smtp errors in the log look like the last two. Not sure what could be causing these.. I hope this is helpful; I'll turn on trace if the issue happens again.
