thanks both! i can definitely read the trident section and just try to 
fix it based on that - hopefully it's accurate enough. also thanks for 
the wiki page unabe, i will keep that in my bookmarks, though it looks 
like i won't need it based on what qwx said.

qwx, the one thing that made me think it could also be a monitor issue 
is that there's some amount of display flickering, but that could also 
be due to memory, so i'll just take a look at the driver first. thanks!
