The Security in Plan 9 paper mentions a desire for public-key auth, reiterated
later by some GSOC proposal (probably Sape, but I can't be arsed to check).
I don't know why they wanted this, *BUT* it *would* happen to be a good first
step towards a real distributed filesystem like Orifs. Which in turn
would solve
at least about four things in Plan 9 including the obvious one (shared root,
meaning a laptop doesn't separately have to be administrated).
Anyway, shout-out to inferno-bls's lapfs.
