My machine's battery is not detected by aux/acpi, meaning that
/dev/battery never shows up, meaning that neither bar nor stats can show
what is a critical piece of information.

what machine? model number? manufacturer? the output of sysinfo as run
by the hostowner?
you've provided no actionable information whatsoever. if you're going to
make a bug report, include the above information as well as any error
messages and contextual information in the first place so people don't
have to waste their time playing twenty questions.

Another fun fact is that no one on this list is paid, really ever to do the service thing. just a bunch of folks helping out because they like 9front and have the skills. Pretty neat! And if you want help, the low-effort, “Should be obvious” schtick you’re pulling will get you exactly ignored, because no one is paid to put up with it.

I made no insistence that it “should be obvious”. Contrary to your
claim of loweffortness, I _did_ make an effort, that being to include
only the needed information.

You forgot to include any information supporting the implicit assumption
that people on this mailing list should give a shit that libaml does not
recognize opcode 0x86. You have still failed to include any information
which would enable someone, in the event they unilaterally decided to
give a shit anyway, to do anything useful with the information you have
so inexpertly provided.
In other words, you are not qualified to ascertain what information is
needed, and you did it wrong. For this, and many other reasons, I am
glad you can't get a battery readout on your (likely stolen) computer.

"(likely stolen)"
Kurt: Is that really where we're going? I'll have you know that that may
qualify as libel if false.
Hawk: get a lawyer. In the meantime, what model of laptop do you have?
This is important if you want anyone to help you get a battery readout.

Key words: "if false." Are you claiming to have knowledge of this
possible crime, or do you merely defend potential criminals as a hobby?
If someone is stealing laptops, and someone knows something about it,
but chooses to defend the thief, that person might be an accessory to
the crime.
> Hawk: get a lawyer. In the meantime, what model of laptop do you have? This

A lawyer might get a thief out of their just punishment, but that won't
restore the stolen property to its rightful owner. A sysinfo readout
would be more useful, here, than a lawyer. Preferably a serial number
as well, so we can check with the police to see if it's been reported
stolen.

If you, as an english speaker, can parse that sentence, it is a valid
english sentence. Back on topic, that does not clarify.

You're an idiot, then. If your machine is worth supporting, people will
care. Sysinfo output is the easiest way to make that determination.
Once again, you're not qualified to identify which information is
relevant.

Plenty of valid English sentences are shit. Most of yours have been.

And that's the third direct accusation of theft? Kurt? Bruh. Lay off it.
"If false" was merely stating that libel law in the US excludes truthful
libel (as it should).
Hawk: http://man.9front.org/1/sysinfo this is what a "sysinfo" is, which
khm is rightly requesting (the only right thing he's doing here) amid
his baseless and offensive accusations of theft. You came in on a bad
start, so folks here are understandably wary of you as a "customer
service suck".
[mucks around on man.9front.org, asking it for libaml, then aml] You
correctly gathered that libaml had something to do with acpi, although
the failure itself may or may not be related to your opcode thing - aml
is the ACPI machine language interpreter. I must confess this isn't
something I too well understand, but [downloads the
plan9front/plan9front source code to their UNIX workstation] the text
"invalid opcode" appears nowhere in sys/src/libaml, possibly leading me
to believe the original subject line is a misreading of the situation,
or something like a red herring? Again I don't really understand how all
this fits together.
May I ask how you're finding 9front in general, other than this battery

I mentioned this on IRC but should mention it here as well. This specific
issue with libaml has already been (partially) fixed thanks to uramekus.
http://git.9front.org/plan9front/plan9front/2f457e75a5d614710a6683875d17d9c552a52a05/commit.html
Only partially because all this does is consume the instruction as a nop. More work may be require,
but this would at least fix the immediately present error.
Thanks,
Moody

Lay off of what? JUSTICE? That won't ever happen. And there's no such
thing as "truthful libel," which would be an oxymoron. I'm starting to
think you're not even a lawyer, or possibly you haven't been admitted to
the bar! I don't think anyone should take your legal advice until
you've established your credentials. If you even have them.

I'm originally from England, where that's a thing (you can get done for
libel which is truthful). Also, never claimed to be a lawyer.

Absolutely disgusting, but I forgive you. It's not fair to hold

France.

This bug report is wrong and your communication skills suck. libaml
does RECOGNIZE opcode 0x86 (NotifyOP, I recommend you to check up
Onotify in optab[]), and that's generally unrelated to battery
handling AFAIK, you may be referring to DefNotify, which is defined
as: "DefNotify := NotifyOp NotifyObject NotifyValue". There's no
documented need for DefNotify and nobody would implement it because of
some random person just pointing at it without even bringing up an
actual bug.

Kurt.
I'm done playing stupid games, because I know that just wins us stupid
prizes.
What made you think that:
- Hawk had committed theft?
- Theft was not a crime in England, or Canada where I now reside?
- France, or England, is a particularly egregious place of birth?
One wonders if you're fit to be on this mailing list, or indeed to hold
the government job that you hold.
This entire thread, if it is assumed that you are serious and not merely
trolling to get a rise out of the good-natured people here and scare off
Hawk who was admittedly coming off to a bad start, is a theatre of the
absurd, and I know that you know it.
Do better. Alternatively: accounts on Eternal September are free, and
Usenet has a rich culture of pedantic trolling. I'm sure there's a good
NNTP client for 9front, as well, but the users are mostly Unix and
Windows-NT folk.

Why were you playing stupid games before? How is anyone supposed to
tell?

I never accused that idiot of stealing anything, I merely opined that
the laptop was probably stolen. By whom, and why nobody will return
it, are questions I still have. You seem to be extremely worried that I
might eventually find out. Why is that? Why are you obstructing this
investigation?
> - Theft was not a crime in England, or Canada where I now reside?
I don't make assumptions about whatever passes for a legal system in
foreign countries. The Canadian government spent generations stealing
children. The English have a centuries-long track record of stealing
entire nations. How am I to guess what is or is not permissible to
steal in these places?
> - France, or England, is a particularly egregious place of birth?
Mostly the output of their filmmaking industries. Totally
reprehensible. Don't get me started on the music.
> One wonders if you're fit to be on this mailing list, or indeed to hold the

One may continue to wonder. Fortunately for me, one is not in a position to
do anything about either situation. Do let me know if there's anything
I can do to assist in one's wonderment. I have held several government
jobs; you may wonder at them sequentially or all at once. I can take it.

You have no evidence that this mailing list is any kind of theater, nor
that I know anything at all, nor any reliable insight into the nature of
the people here, or whether there ARE people here.

Maybe opcode 0x86 was eighty-sixed intentionally.
