I'm not sure what the "official" point of Plan 9 is, but I use Plan 9 because it's elegant, fun, minimalist, and has great documentation and beautifully written code for its various pieces. It's an excellent hobbyist programming environment. If I weren't hacking on Plan 9, I might instead be getting stoned and using Pharo. What's the Hiro-approved official version of the point of Plan 9 from Bell Labs?
