* [Caml-list] Suggestion for an OCaml Wiki

Back when people were discussing a community site for OCaml, someone
suggested creating a Wiki for OCaml. I need to second that suggestion: wikis
are good for capturing the collective knowledge of the community in a form
more permanent (and easier to search) than a mailing list, but less rigid
than a static site. I contribute to wikis for other languages and I think
it's a great medium for documentation and discussion. If I had a server I
would gladly donate some space to hosting but alas, I don't have it. I'm
mentioning it again because maybe other people would like to see a wiki as
well, and we could coordinate to find hosting and see who could take on the
admin roles.

Myself and Christophe are going to be setting up a Wiki real soon ...
unfortunately pressure of work has slowed down this, and the other
thing - setting up a GForge repository.

It might be my post :o)

I'm glad you're investing some time and ressources in this project. Let
me please recall my idea to structure the wiki in a way that makes it
easy to setup SIGs or meta-projects.

I quote here my own post :
"""
Another important feature request is the possibility to organise SIGs
(Special Interest Groups) on topics such as crossplatform development,
build systems, networking, XML, databases, Internationalization (UTF-8),
RPC and webservices, GUI, mathematics and logics ... This would help the
OCaml community to struture itself into hierarchicaly specialised
sub-communities with their own mailing-list and wiki pages.
Hopefully it would enable constructive interactions between developers
working on similar projects. A good example of SIGs management is the
Python website :
http://python.org/sigs/
"""

I do really think that the GODI repository + a formal SIG framework will
significantly help organize third party development in a more coherent way.

I look forward to contribute to such a wiki !

Best,

I really should devote more time to this :-) Merjis bought a domain,
and a machine, and hosting. We tried setting up GForge, but the LDAP
configuration was beyond me, and things ground to a halt.

I suppose no one has any objections to using UseModWiki? It's very
easy to set up. The alternative would be TWiki, and I know one OCaml
user who is also a core TWiki developer. However I must admit that
every time I've tried to install TWiki, I've failed. There isn't any
wiki written in OCaml is there?

Rich.

Try www.instiki.org.
Unpack and run it, no configuration files. There's no step three :-)

It includes a webserver and everything else, the only dependency is a
standard installation of Ruby 1.8.1.

And there are some neat features, e.g. categories (not yet integrated,
but available as patch).

Regards,

  Michael

This page:

  http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiEngines

lists GikiWiki:

  http://wiki.woozle.org/GikiWiki

Though it doesn't look too much like it's of production quality at first
glance.
