Actually, one more polymorphic variable:
let rec f2 : 'a 'b. ([<`A of 'a | `B ] as 'a) -> ([>`B] as 'b)= function
  | `A x -> f2 (f2 x)
  | `B -> `B;;
val f2 : ([< `A of 'a | `B ] as 'a) -> [> `B ] = <fun>
