Lorenz Huelsbergen and Phil Winterbottom implemented their VCGC algorithm [1] for the Limbo programming language under Inferno and for SMLNJ as well, and their use of that concurrent garbage collection algorithm required no changes to any Limbo or SMLNJ application code.
