Identifying and obtaining valuable information from large amounts of weather data can be extremely beneficial in terms of agricultural development. Governments have begun to embrace smart city ideas to improve the living standard of their citizens and to implement big data applications. Big data and analytics for the smart city can transform every sector of a nation’s economy. Surveillance and monitoring in the cities can be tracked in real-time. Any suspects of terror attacks and fraudulent activities can be detected and cities becomes intelligent to respond to any critical moments. Such transformation enables cities to adopt the learning principles and requirements of the applications of the smart cities by executing main smart environment characteristics, which include, sustainability, resilience, governance, improved quality of life, business opportunities, collaboration and intelligent management of natural resources and city facilities. The main features of smart cities include a high degree of information integration, technology integration and a comprehensive application of information resources. The essential components of urban development for a smart city should include smart technology, smart industry, smart services, smart management and smart life. Latest trends such as analytics, social networks, predictive modeling, crime surveillance, disaster response and virtual reality can be incorporated into smart cities. For example, smart cities can better blend virtual reality for citizens to know and interact with each other more, so that their social networks can be blended with meeting people in the city and not just online. Smart cities can also predict citizens' items to buy and schedules based on their previous records of activities. There is a growing number of smart cities in Asia, Europe and America that have proven a better quality of life, more convenience and efficiency for citizens of cities. However, challenges such as security, privacy, data protection and technical integration can also pose interesting research questions.
