I was not planning on responding substantively to Gerd's point about
Core, but I don't want to let a false impression stand.  Core, Async,
Typeconv, Sexplib and Binprot are all high-quality codebases that
benefit from quite a bit of testing, code review, and care.  I'm not
sure what Gerd is referring to, but it is true that we stopped putting
effort into packaging for Godi some time ago (You can look here
http://bit.ly/13aPCEI for the history behind why we stopped using GODI
ourselves), but our releases are at this point quite smooth.  We have
a reliable weekly release with tarballs, opam packages, and exports
into git (hosted at github) and mercurial (hosted at bitbucket).

Surely there are things to improve (documentation, for example), but I
don't think there's a general QA problem.

As a general point, I do think that a weekly release is not what most
people want or need.  That's why OCaml Labs and OCamlPro are working
on an OCaml Platform that contains stable versions of many important
libraries, with OPAM used to manage those packages.  I think most
programmers would be happier using such a platform release, rather
than a bleeding-edge weekly one.
