I just did a fresh install and it is working fine for me when I use the normal method. The ocamlbuild method seems to compile fine, but make install gives some error. I checked ocamlbuild's log file and the last line says "Compilation successful", but when I do make install it says "cp: ocamlc: No such file or directory", although I verified that _build/ocamlc does exist. This seems like a different error than yours.
